The Creative Life
This charming sketch by Christoph Niemann pretty much sums up my daily work life. The utter agony of creative block when I’m concepting right up to the sheer elation of finding an idea that works. Wonderfully summarised!
Working by fairy light on this gloomy afternoon
A Quiet Day in the Office…
Today is one of those days where I’ve tied up all the loose ends on a number of projects and am just waiting for feedback and the next round of projects to roll on in. It’s rare that this happens during the work week, but right now I am at a lost for what to do with myself. I feel a bit useless, but unfortunately there isn’t much I can do at this moment in time.
So instead of wasting this brief respite playing computer games I decided to make the most of it and redesign my portfolio page. To be honest, I was never happy with it. Too much of my work was hidden behind pagination, and it was indistinguishable from the rest of the site, so I thought I’d sit down and take a look and try to showcase my work a little better.
I opted for the ever popular ‘icon’ view, as I think it provides much easier access to all of the graphics, rather than them being lost behind other pages. I’m relatively happy with it, and I know there are still a few things to tweak, but not bad for 2 hours work (^_^)
Featured in Marie Claire!
Last month I received a lovely little email from one of the Marie Claire writers based in Italy asking if I’d like to participate in a small little infographic feature for their upcoming issue. Of course I said yes, and set about working on the brief which was to illustrate my personal Happiness Kit.
I thought long and hard about what made me happy, and decided that I didn’t want to get too deep or serious about it, but wanted to look at my day-to-day happiness. I narrowed it down to 5 key, simple items: Friends and family, sunshine, a good book, coffee and cats. This may seem like an obscure list… but to me they’re all essential to a good well-rounded day, as this simple chart illustrates.
So along with several other designers we made up a nice little infographic section in this month’s issue. Check it out!
